ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, files trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for “TikTok Music”

ByteDance, the parent company of short video platform giant TikTok, is all set to introduce its new music streaming app in the market. The company has recently filed a trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the new music app “TikTok Music”. However, the release date of the app is still to be revealed.

According to the available information from trademark application, the new app will allow users to purchase, play, share as well as download the music. Moreover, the users can create, download, and share their playlists via the app only. The feature to comment on the music, livestream audio, and videos will also be provided to the users. The firm has already filed the trademark for the application in Australia as well.

However, the firm already carries a good experience in the music industry due to their existing music app Resso. The app is developed by ByteDance and is available to download in Brazil, India, and Indonesia. The same holds a monthly user base of 40 million users in these operating markets. The Brazil version of the TikTok app directs the users to Resso when they wish to listen to a complete song they liked on the former app. Difference apps assist ByteDance in completing its own ecosystem.

It is yet to see if ByteDance will keep the UI and framework of the new app the same as the existing one or if we will get something new to experience. However, just as TikTok had a profound impression among social media users, the new music app can also give a tough competition to the existing music alternatives, including Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music etc.
