Web 3.0 World to Provide a Space of Equity and Freedom to Lgbtq+ and Minor Communities

The New York City Pride Parade has always been the center of attraction for around 2 million participants and spectators every year. This year, the pride parade kicked off on 26 June on the streets of dedicated places in New York. However, the innovation is that celebration this year is not limited to just physical streets of the city, but metaverse is also welcoming the pride month. The major difference is that pride month in metaverse will not end with June but will be celebrated around the year. MetaPride Land, a metaverse LGBT event organizer, hosts a series of events and celebrations at Decentraland and Sandbox.

Metaverse opens up the doorways to much broader community regardless of geographic locations and circumstances

Matt Stevenson, founder of MetaPride Land, former media executive at Time Magazine further added,

There are still 68 countries across the world where it’s illegal to be gay. In the United States, there are over 200 bills that are targeting our community in some way, shape or form. It felt really important that going into this June, we provide a space that’s accessible regardless of where you are, to come in and celebrate your life.

However, Stevenson doesn’t seem to be alone working on this kind of project for LGBTQ+ and connecting the minor communities to provide them a space to explore and express themselves.

The Sandbox and Decentraland, two of the leading developers in metaverse are also organizing the pride events to transfigure the New York celebrations.

People of Crypto, the metaverse innovation lab in New York, is also airdropping 8,430 NFT avatars to use in Sandbox that features the various sexualities, styles, and skin shades.

Every June, you have a lot of brands and businesses and companies and corporations that come in and throw rainbow flags all over their logos and sell products that are targeted to our community,

Stevenson further said.

And then once June is over, all of those things kind of disappear.

It can’t end there. For queer people, we’re queer 365 days of the year. We don’t turn it off when June ends.

said Cash, who helps Decentraland organize LGBT events and panel discussions in the metaverse.
